~ You Ask, Kym Ryder (ITV Website) ~
Back To Interviews...
You asked the questions, and we got the answers! Now you can find out what Kym Ryder, AKA Michelle Connor, had to say during our You ask... interview.
Since joining the show, the smart, sexy barmaid has had men falling over themselves to grab her attention.
So, we were thrilled to get her in the hot set to answer your queries.
Hear what Kym has to say about Michelle's love- hate relationship with Liz, how she's getting on with her role and whether or not we'll be hearing more of her singing!
Thanks for your wonderful response and here are a few of the best questions…
Were you a big fan of Corrie fan before joining the show, and who was your favourite character?
Victoria Hammond, Berkshire
A huge fan, it's always been a show I've really loved. Coming from the North it's something that's always been on the TV so I've grown with it and I absolutely love it.
Funnily enough my favourite character was Liz McDonald, who I'm actually getting to work with at the moment. She's just great and, on meeting Beverley (Beverley Callard, who plays Liz) it's even better because she's so different to Liz. It just shows what a great actress she is. You've got to love Liz.
Corrie has produced its fair share of strong feisty women characters. Do you see Michelle as one of them?
Paul Richards, Northampton
I guess so, she's definitely a feisty, strong woman. She's brought up a 14-year-old child all but by herself so she's obviously strong. We've seen some of that already, but there's more to come. She's very warm, funny and quirky and there are a lot of places we can go with her.
Your character Michelle seems to be a big hit with the fellas, but which of the ladies of Weatherfield would you like to see her become good friends with?
Jennifer Stephen, London
She does get on with the guys, but she's not necessarily being flirtatious – she just sees herself as one of the lads. She's becoming closer to Violet and possibly Maria. I definitely don't see her becoming friends with Tracy Barlow. It would be nice if she got on with Liz, but that might spoil the magic. At the moment they love to hate each other and it brings a lot of comedy.
How do you like playing Michelle and are you like her in any way?
Beth
I love playing Michelle, she's fantastic. In some ways I can identify with her. Obviously she had a child at 15 and, although I was 18, I was still a teen mum so I can relate to her in that way and the closeness she has with her son. Also, she's quite sarcastic and I am a bit as well, and she's looking to settle down like I have. So, in some ways we are similar.
When you started on Coronation Street was there a particular actor/actress you were most nervous about meeting?
Michelle Hardwick
I was nervous about meeting everybody. I walked in and felt like the new girl at school on my first day but I was made to feel very, very welcome. I've been there two months now and I feel like I've been there forever. I can honestly say I like and get along with everybody and that's a rarity - it proves how great everyone is.
If you could pick your own storyline for Michelle what would it be and which character(s) would be a part of it?
Louise Duncombe, Peterborough
The comedy's really great, but I'd like to see her in something gritty that she can get her teeth into. It would be nice to explore the character of Michelle and get to know her. I'd like to see her fall in love and settle down and I'd like to see Liz and Michelle have a common ground – but still have that bitchiness going on, that would be nice.
How do you remember all your lines?
Sarah Herridge, Basingstoke
No, I just go in a read it again and again. I often enlist the help of my parents or my husband to learn my lines. But I'm finding it ok, maybe because I had to learn lyrics for songs for so many years so my memory is in good working order.
Do you see your role going far into the future on Corrie and if so would you like to be the next Landlady in the Rovers?
Siobhan Bradshaw, Limerick, Ireland
That's a big responsibility - I'm not sure Michelle's ready for that yet. Maybe down the line, you never know!
Now that you haveworked in the music industry, the West End, a presenter on Loose Women and now an actress, what would you say is the best? Why?
Skye Mackinnon
I really enjoy every aspect of everything I've done, but Coronation Street is such a fantastic place to work. I love being part of a team. I'm very proud of us – I'm very loyal in that way. I love acting though, so I'd have to say that.
Will we get more opportunities to enjoy Michelle sing?
Sarah Trevor, Bristol
Yes, I think so. We've already seen her do her audition and I know there's a couple of bits and pieces where we'll see her sing, so you never know in the future!
What is more nerve-racking filming Corrie or singing live on stage?
Amanda, Edinburgh
Singing live is more nerve-racking, because at least if you're filming you can re-do it. When you're singing live or doing live television, you can't go back and do it again because everyone's seen you make a mistake.
